The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy has developed this virtual training for operators and owners of small, privately-owned public drinking water supplies across the state. Topics include EGLE's new MIEHDWIS database, capacity development, coliform bacteria source investigation, cross connection, system maintenance, communications, water system emergencies, and other issues relative to small drinking water supplies.
This course is comprised of 5 sessions held July 30 - August 08, 2024.
Registration Fee: $45 includes all 5 sessions.
Continuing Education: Each session provides 0.1 CECs for up to 0.5 CECs in the technical category.

Session 1 - MiEHDWIS/Drinking Water Viewer

This training will focus on providing small system water operators and owners with information on EGLE DWEHD’s Michigan Environmental Health and Drinking Water Information System (MiEHDWIS) Database and EGLE’s Drinking Water Viewer. Session 1 of this series will include:
- Provide an overview of the Michigan Environmental Health and Drinking Water Information System (MiEHDWIS) database’s purpose to streamline communication between EGLE and public drinking water supplies, general functions available on the platform, and summary of recently added features and updates. (30 min)
- Provide an overview and demonstration of EGLE’s Drinking Water Viewer that provides public access to public water system information for noncommunity water supplies including information on general system information, sampling, and violations/enforcement. (30 min)

Session 2 - Consumer Confidence Reports

- Consumer Confidence Report (60 min):
- Available resources to assist with completing the consumer confidence report requirements
- Overview of the consumer confidence report rules and deadlines
- Provide an overview of how to write a consumer confidence report and the elements that are required to be included
- Common deficiencies found in consumer confidence reports and how to avoid/resolve them
- Overview of the proposed consumer confidence report rule revisions

Session 3 - Asset Management

This training will focus on providing small system water operators and owners with information on asset management programs. Session 3 of this series will include:
- This training session discusses the process of planning and implementing an Asset Management Program for drinking water systems. This includes reviewing asset management concepts, the components of a program, and examines how programs provides tools and a framework for prioritizing needs and extending the useful life of utility assets. Practical topics to aid in developing and implementing a program are covered, including inventories and condition assessments, best management practices, preventative maintenance, capital improvement planning, and record-keeping. We will explore the roles of different people in an organization to implement the plan, and the importance of updating the plan each year. (60 min)

Session 4 - Operator Oversight

Session 5 - Lead Service Line Replacement/Distribution System Materials Inventory

This training will focus on providing small system water operators and owners with information on lead service line replacements and the complete distribution system material inventory. Session 5 of this series will include:
- Lead Service Line Replacement (30 min):
- Guidance on service line material notification
- Annual Service Line Replacement Report form overview
- Emergency service line repair requirements
- Distribution System Material Inventory (DSMI) (30 min):
- General Overview of the Complete Distribution System Materials Inventory (CDSMI) requirements
- Overview of rules revisions
- CDSMI Submission Forms
- Q&A Session (15 min)
