Membrane Filtration Operations Course
(In-Person)
September 25, 2025
This one-day course will cover the various aspects of membrane filtration. The day will begin with a presentation on the general theory, concepts, and application of membrane filtration. The presentation will move into the actual operations of the Bay Area Water Treatment Plant, where attendees will get to watch and interact with the real-time operations of an ultrafiltration membrane plant as it goes through its various processes. During this time, key processes like flow control, skid rotations, backwashes, pressure decay tests, chemical washes, and residual management will be highlighted and discussed in detail. To help conceptualize some of the more technical concepts, attendees will be taken on a hands-on tour through the facility where attendees will get to see the network of interconnected systems that allow the process to function. After the tour, the session cohort get the opportunity to watch and take part in maintenance activities that are critical to ensuring membrane integrity.
