Session 2 - The Continuous Coliform: Investigations of Coliform Bacteria in Water Systems
Thursday, August 10, 2023
10:00-11:30 AM

This training will focus on providing small system water operators and owners with case studies that investigated the source of coliform bacteria in water systems. Session 2 of this series will include:

  • Case Study 1: A small resort village in northern Michigan has experienced periodic total coliform positives for a number of years.  The village only chlorinates during their flushing periods and have been hesitant to implement full time chlorination due to their water aesthetics and tourist population.  The staff at EGLE and the village have worked together over the years to systematically try and locate and mitigate the cause of the total coliform positive samples.  This case study goes over the steps taken during this process.
  • Case Study 2: An investigation is performed at an industrial facility that is classified as a nontransient noncommunity water supply with persistent coliform bacteria contamination. An overview of the different well chlorination techniques will be discussed.
  • Q&A Session (15 min)
