In-Person Course for Water Operators
This three-day course will cover basic math, cross connection, SDWA, distribution components, water bacteriology and sampling, basic chemistry part 1 and 2, disinfection/chlorination, and chlorination problems, fluoridation, and fluoridation problems.

Drinking Water Operations Course Day One
This session will cover basic math, chlorination/disinfection, lab analysis, water storge, basic chemistry, and hydraulics. Basic math will cover exponents, areas, volumes, unit conversions, concentrations, flow rates, and example problems. Disinfection/chlorination covers properties of chlorine, chlorine reactions, breakpoint chlorination, chlorine residuals, chlorine by-products, and chlorination systems. Basic chemistry will cover balancing reactions, molar masses, rules of fractions and unit conversations, history of the mole, molar mass ratios, molar ratio conversation factors, and stoichiometric calculations. Laboratory analysis will cover disinfectant residuals, pH, temperature, alkalinity, turbidity, and hardness. Water storage will include storage design, storage for contact time maintenance and preventing contamination. Hydraulics will cover weight, pressure calculations, and the continuity equation.
Drinking Water Operations Course Day Two
This session will cover chlorination problems, chemical feeders, ethics, filtration and problems, cross connections and source water. Chlorination problems will cover calculation-based problems. Cross connection will cover rules, terms and concepts, back flow prevention, cross connection programs, BFP testing requirements, and reporting review. Ethics will cover, codes of ethics, certification application, rules related to ethical behavior, and case studies. Source water will cover ground water, great lakes, inland lakes or impoundments, and rivers. Chemical feeders will cover common types of positive displacement pumps, pump maintenance, flow rate setting, common pump problems, and system feeders. Filtration and problems will cover filtration mechanisms, design, types of filters, filter media designs/analysis, sieve analysis, types of media, filter bottoms, filter control methods, back washing, filter problems, media depth/growth/rounding, filter operations, treatment techniques and practice problems.
Drinking Water Operations Course Day Three
This session will cover fluoridation, fluoridation problems, distribution system components, SDWA, and water bacteriological and sampling. Fluoridation will cover public health issues, forms of fluoride used for water treatment, storage and handling, common feeders, and design, how to calculate application levels, residual testing, and reporting requirements. Fluoridation problems will cover practice problems. Distribution components will cover meters, hydrants, and valves. SDWA will cover state regulations, rule reading, location of act 399, requirements in act 399, and revised total coliform, L1/L2 assessments, and violations. Water bacteriology will cover drinking water and environmental health, sampling locations, bacteriological sampling, lab sample procedures, L1A triggers and L2A triggers.
CANCELLATION POLICY: Cancellations made on or before June 23, 2025, will be eligible for a full refund of the registration fee. Those who cancel after June 23 and no-shows, will be responsible for the full registration fee. Substitutions are welcome any time.
